Diamonds are everywhere these days. The October 2007 cover story in Scientific American was about the use of diamond for quantum computing. Its clearly a "far out" application, but speaks to the promise of diamond.

Just a few days ago some researchers at Northwestern University discovered that nanodiamonds make great drug delivery vehicles. In this instance, its specifically nanodiamond that has these properties--again pointing the way to an explosion of uses for nanodiamond. http://www.azonano.com/News.asp?NewsID=5108

Diamond is an engineering material
We started our company, Advanced Diamond Technologies (www.thindiamond.com) based on the vision that diamond is a superlative material that would be more widely used if the traditional impediments to its use--such as cost, reproducibatility, large-area depositions, etc.--were overcome. That's exactly what we're doing.
The number of applications for synthetic diamond is starting to proliferate rapidly. It ranges from synthetic gemstones for jewelry to diamond electronics.
We invite our friends, customers, collaborators--even our competitors--to engage in a dialogue with us about this incredible material, diamond.
The title of this post "Diamond is an engineering material" embodies our belief that diamond is about to have its day, and diamond will soon be available as a material for designers with the same level of reliability and accessibility as silicon, silicon carbide, gallium arsenide and other traditional electronic/semi materials.
